Why I hate Republicans part 2032.3: They can’t be honest about the efficacy of condoms on the spread of HIV.

Q: “But you would agree that condoms do stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Would you say: ‘No, we’re not going to distribute them,’ knowing that?”

The answer is “yes”. Knowing that he could save lives, he’d still cave to his base. If your beliefs dictate you shouldn’t have sex for non-procreational purposes that’s great. Good luck with that. But don’t stand in the way of those who don’t. One of the reasons that there are 6+ billion people on the planet is that humans are a quite randy species. To think abstinence only is an affective sex ed policy for young people, and an sane public policy dealing with the AIDS crisis is just… wow. I can’t even think of the words.

And Mr. McCain promises to follow in Bush’s footsteps:

Mr. McCain: (Laughs) “Are we on the Straight Talk express? I’m not informed enough on it. Let me find out. You know, I’m sure I’ve taken a position on it on the past. I have to find out what my position was. Brian, would you find out what my position is on contraception – I’m sure I’m opposed to government spending on it, I’m sure I support the president’s policies on it.”

What makes things happening on the right delicious schadenfreude is that people on the right think McCain is not conservative enough. McCain is made to sound like he’s a member of the Kennedy family by the rightwing douchebags like Limbaugh and Hannity. Their big hope was on the Mittster (did you hear his concession speech? Saying we don’t want to be a 21st Century France? That porn and promiscuity cause 45% of African American babies to be born out of wedlock? And that a Obama or Clinton administration will guarantee a terrorist attack!) The only sane person on the right was Ron Paul and he’s a fucking nut.

This really is the Democrat’s election to lose. This is change versus more of the same. The excitement on the Democratic can win this thing. If the old school Clinton style strategy doesn’t fuck it up and keep people motivated. You can see the much larger turnout at the Democratic primaries than at the Republican primiaries. There are more Democrats in the country than Republicans. Democrats are motivated. Republicans aren’t. But a lot can happen in nine months.
