El lunes

My friend T-money and his lovely wife were in town this weekend. After work on Friday I met up with them at the SFA and then off to dinner at Güero’s. There was a hot rod festival thingy on SoCo so it was sorta crowded. Something so weird, I was glad I had witnesses happened when we went up to the bar for some cervezas y margaritas. There was a black septuagenarian perched at the corner of the bar who seemed to be talking to everyone coming up to the bar for drinks. When we got up there, he asked me if I was English. I said, actually I was American. He thought a beat and then said most Americans come from England so I’m English. I said, no my family is actually Swiss. He said the thing about the Swiss is they were actually Germans. I was uh-huh. Where’s the bartender? Then he said the best leader the Germans ever had was… yes, you guessed it Adolf Hitler. He was quick to say sure he had his racism and his prejudice, but it was really because he was surrounded by the wrong people. At that moment the drinks arrived and we left to find a table. We were totally stunned. You just don’t hear that. Hear I thought Hitler was a bad man, but it was because he had bad friends.

Dinner was OK. It was good to catch up with friends. We then walked up and down South Congress checking out the hot rods — the people watching was something to behold — and window shopping. Then we headed to the Warehouse District. We ended up at Cedar Street. There was an 80s coverband with a schtick of being dweeb poindexters. But they were pretty pitch perfect. Of course, the crowd there skews older there but as my friends and I had to admit, these people were our age. And to top if off we were done by midnight. T-money was the same guy I partied until 630 in the morning in New Orleans with in 2001. Six years later, we’re wanting to get home for Matlock.

Saturday sucked. I awoke with a fever and generally feeling like shit. It couldn’t have been the booze since I only had a few beers. So I had to puss out plans with my friends and spent the day sleeping. The bright side is Austin decided to stop acting like Seattle and the sun came out and it was nice for them to explore the city.

Sunday sucked as well. I still felt crappy, but better. I ended up oversleeping and so this morning [Monday] at 2am, I’m wide awake but feeling good. So I cleaned my apartment. I wanted to vacuum but decided to be a nice neighbor and keep the noise to a minimum. I went back to sleep at 4am and had a tough time getting up for work.

Today coworkers and I went and had lunch at HomeSlice. It is somewhere we go often. And we had Danny McPantless as our server. Or at least that’s what the check says. He tells us he’s been drunk for four days so he was apologizing in advance for the poor service. The service was OK, but when the bill came we needed $10 charged to a credit card, and we had two $20 bills we needed change for. He takes the money and credit card and comes back with no change and the credit card charged for the whole amount. Poor Danny McPantsless. Fortunately we got it all straightened out. But I must say I wish I could work drunk.
